Welcome to the Vale of Avalon Vintage Vehicle Road Run
It was started by Den and Daphne Stone along with two friends and the first run in 1993 raised £64 for Diabetes UK.
The run has grown since those early days, and over the years has raised approximately £35,000 for various charities. These include British Diabetics, Children’s Hospice South West, Somerset and Dorset Air Ambulance, Ghurka Welfare Trust, Macmillan Care and the Mendip Branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
The Run is always held on the first Saturday in June and is well received by vehicle owners and the general public alike. We travel as a Travelling Assembly on a route from Glastonbury to Burnham-On-Sea where the presentation of trophies is made. They are presented by local dignitaries including the Mayor of Burnham, who also donates a Mayors Cup.
Previous well known personalities who have started the Run are Acker Bilk and Sandy Evans, the Lord Lieutenant of Somerset. Awards are given for vehicles that stir a memory, not necessarily those in best show condition. This way everybody has an equal chance.
The Run is open to various vehicles, cars, vans, commercial vehicles, military vehicles, American vehicles, motorbikes almost anything except tractors, simply because they cant keep up on the Run!
The only condition is that vehicles must be more than 20 years old. On our first run we had 17 vehicles and now we have in excess of 120.
Entry forms can be downloaded from this site, or if you prefer they can be obtained through Daphne Stone on 01458 831147
